Bladeset for GINLONG GL-PMG-5000 PMG

Discussion in 'Blade Sets' started by apg360, Oct 14, 2010.

  1. Hi,

    I have a wind which rarely go above 7mph, And i would like to accomplish a RPM of 200.

    So a working cut-in of 2mph/s (cut-out not compulsory) for 200 RPM, which blade set should i pick ??

    Thanks and best regards,
  2. Welcome to the forum
    I am really interested in your project..
    Do you already own the Ginlong ?
    1st I would suggest you asked the Ginlong supplier what blade set length they recommend for their own product ?

    Wow, 7 mph tops in wind speed. i was wondering if you lived in the UK to have linked up with Ginlong.
    What does your turbine location look like for terrain.

    What is your tower size, height, to take care of all that turbine weight.

    I have a load of other questions but will wait to hear from you.

    Sorry i did not give you a magic answer on your blade set question, but you can be sure many of us will end up learning from your question.

    regards

  3. Hi,

    The height of the tower is not so high, if possible i will keep it on the ground but i'm planning to put it at an height of 4 to 5 meter. I do not care about the weight and size of the tower, for this kind of things i got enough space and i am able to pay what should be paid to put it there and i don't mind at all the restriction.

    I wanted a VAWT, but this shop only have HAWT .... anyway i decided to ask because you people seems to have more experience than me on the blade diameter, TSR and the RPM it can produce with a top speed wind of 7mph.

    I am ready for a VAWT of a length of 5 meter i don't mind as far as the turbine will remain in the ground for this case. But if i should apply a 5 meter tower the VAWT blade should not be very tall.

    Here one reference of a VAWT blade turning at very low speed, you can see the trees leaf in the background, they are moving very slowly :)

    I am sure its possible depending on the blade height and diameter, but if its really so tough i will use waterwheels or something else with water to accomplish this RPM, but PLEASE guys help to find a proper VAWT blade set (or a HAWT).

  4. You will have to buy some very, very large blades to turn your 5,000 Watt generator at 200 RPM with only 7MPH winds. Here is a list of typical Watts produced for some rotor diameters (in feet) with a 10 mph wind ...

    Rotor Diameter vs Watts (@10mph)
    5' = 20w to 35w
    10' = 80w to 140w
    12' = 115w to 196w
    15' = 180w to 333w
    20' = 320w to 560w
    25' = 500w to 875w
    30' = 720w to 1,260w
    60' = 2,880w to 5,040w

    And you only have 7 MPH winds.
    5,00 wats with 7 MPH winds appears to be unreasonaleimpossible for your DIY project.
    And VAWT are even less efficient than HAWT.
  5. Thank you very much for this information.

    Thanks and regards,
