500 Watt Low Wind Permanent Magnet Alternator Specifically Designed For Wind Generator

Don't forget to check out video of our PMA in action!

This PMA produces over 400 Watts in 20 mph wind. Compare this to others who sell "1000 to 1500 Watt" PMA's and ask them how much power their PMA will produce in 20 mph wind. Ask them for a real-world power curve, and compare to our own. You will be surprised to find that those "1000 to 1500 Watt" PMA's actually produce 100 to 250 Watts in 20 mph wind!

Do your homework. There is a reason this PMA weighs 25 pounds and many of the "500 to 1500 Watt" PMA's  on the internet weigh about 12 pounds. The reason is this PMA has MORE copper wire and LARGER magnets which, in turn, make more power.

Our new PMA has several new features and improvements:

1. Windy Nation's 500 Watt PMA now comes with an aluminum heatsink shell which has allowed us to reduce the diameter of the PMA by 12%, while still maintaining good heat dissipation.

2. We are now using longer carriage bolts which have a threaded portion coming out the back of the PMA. These bolts can be used for attaching your PMA to your mount.

3. We have increased the diameter of the hub to 16 inches which provides better start-up torque for the rotor (blades).

What is included?

1. Permanent Magnet 3-Phase AC Alternator (the actual generator)

2. 16 inch diameter, 3/16 inch thick, stainless steel hub

3. Three, 30 inch long, Windy Nation Inc. wind generator blades

4. Stainless steel mounting hardware (nuts and bolts) for mounting the hub to the wind generator shaft and for mounting the blades to the hub

5. A 50 amp 3 phase bridge rectifier

PMA Description

The PMA is enclosed in a steel housing with a aluminum heatsink shell.  It is completely enclosed and 100% weather resistant. It does not need any type of additional housing to protect it from harsh weather conditions. The front, back and shaft of the PMA body are painted black with a 2 part polyurethane paint. It is the same high quality, durable paint used by professional boat painters, making the PMA suitable for marine environments.

This PMA can generate some serious electricity. The PMA is wound so that it should be used on 12 or 24 volt battery banks or you can do a grid tie system. Take a look at the Power Curve to see how much power it will create at a given wind speed. This is not a re-wound Delco Car Alternator, it's a brand new, brushless, low-cogging, 3-phase AC wind generator alternator.

Hub Description

Included is a very strong, 3/16 inch thick, 16 inch diameter stainless steel hub. It is precision machined, perfectly balanced and slides right onto the PMA's shaft.

Blade Description

Three blades (30 inches long, 1/8 inch thick). Windy Nation Inc. designed these blades specifically for the generator offered in this listing. They have high torque, are extremely quiet and will bring this generator up to speed quickly. Three AirX type blades will not even spin this PMA when it is hooked up to a battery bank!  When mounted to the hub, the swept area for the generator is 69 inches!

Fastener Description

Nine stainless steel fasteners for mounting the blades to the hub are included. Additionally, the nut and lock washer for securing the hub to the generator shaft are both included.

3-phase Bridge Rectifier Description

This generator produces 3-phase AC electricity. It's easy to charge a DC battery bank with this generator! You need to use the 50 amp 3-phase bridge rectifier which is included.  A 3-phase bridge rectifier converts 3-phase AC (produced by this generator) to DC electricity, thus allowing you to charge a DC battery bank. There are five connections on a 3-phase bridge rectifier. Three of them (the AC connections which are marked like this "~") connect to the three wires coming out of the generator. The other two (the DC connections which are marked "+" and "-") connect to your battery bank. Obviously, the "+" connection is connected to the "+" connection on your battery and the "-" connection goes to "-" on your battery. You DO NOT need a blocking diode when using a bridge rectifier because a bridge rectifier has diodes inside of it.  AC electricity travels through wires much, much more efficiently than DC.  For this reason, place the 3 phase bridge rectifier close to your battery bank so that you can maximize the distance that the AC electricity travels through your wires.  You will get more amps. to your battery bank this way!

Lastly, mount the 3-phase bridge rectifier on a heatsink so that it does not overheat. Any piece of thin metal (~ 0.02 - 0.1 inches thick) that is at least 4 X 4 inches will work good. There is no need to buy a heatsink if you have a piece of scrap metal lying around your house.
